Sigma Tech was intially tapped by RDA, Inc. to develop the
Low-Cost Acoustic Processor in 2002. The LCAP provides recording and
real-time processing of digital and analog sonobuoys on the NAVAIR P3-C
platform. The LCAP has flown numerous missions since 2003, and has been
extremely reliable in flight. The LCAP is housed in a half-height rack and is
certified to fly onboard the P3-C.
The LCAP taps acoustic data from the legacy P3-C systems in
several places. The Acoustic data is provided via the ARR-78 receivers on
the P3, the LCAP is capable of receiving any combination of up to 32 digital or
analog buoys. Buoy deployment, navigation data, legacy contact data and
other legacy information is provided via an NTDS tap between the System
Controller (SC) and the Tactical Computer (TC) onboard the P3.
